Quick Answer
All Bluebot water meters use clamp-on, transit-time ultrasonic technology and work with a wide range of pipe sizes and materials. The main differences between models are pipe size range and how the meter connects to the internet (Wi-Fi or LoRaWAN).
Universal Compatibility (All Bluebot Models besides Mini)
Bluebot meters automatically adjust to over 80 pipe size and pipe material combinations using patented robotic servoing guided by the Bluebot mobile app. As new pipe sizes and materials are supported, they are added through software updates at no additional cost.
Supported Pipe Materials
Copper (Type L & M)
PVC (Schedule 40 & 80)
CPVC (Schedule 40 & 80)
PEX
PE
Galvanized steel
Stainless steel
50-W (Bluebot Mini)
Best for
Residential and light commercial installations with smaller pipe sizes and nearby Wi-Fi access.
Pipe Size Compatibility
Designed for small-diameter pipes commonly found in residential systems
Typical use cases include branch lines, irrigation lines, and point-of-use monitoring
For larger pipe sizes or whole-building monitoring, see the 100-W model.
100-W (Wi-Fi Essential Water Meter)
Best for
Whole-home, commercial, and industrial installations where larger pipe sizes or higher flow capacity are required and have nearby Wi-Fi access.
Pipe Size Compatibility
Standard: ¾”, 1”, 1¼”, 1½”, 2”
Large: 2½”, 3”, 4” (requires special calibration “Prime” versions)
Performance Specifications (50-W & 100-W)
Accuracy: ±1.0% to 2.0% of flow reading
(dependent on application, pipe size, and material)Repeatability: ±0.2% of flow reading
Low-flow detection:
Sensitive enough to detect very low, continuous flow
Exact minimum flow depends on pipe size and model
High-flow capacity:
Supports the maximum flow rating of the installed pipe size
Wi-Fi Networking (50-W & 100-W)
Connection type: 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi
Signal requirements:
Strong Wi-Fi required during initial setup
Minimum usable signal required at the install location
Typical range: ~30 ft (9 m) from router with strong signal
Devices per account: Unlimited
Locations: Unlimited
For installations where Wi-Fi is not available or distances are greater, see LoRaWAN Bluebot solutions.
EcoLink & ProLink (LoRaWAN)
Best for
Large properties, remote locations, multi-meter sites, or areas without reliable Wi-Fi.
Networking
Connection type: LoRaWAN (no Wi-Fi required at the meter)
Range:
Up to ~1.2 miles (2 km) in urban environments
Up to ~10 miles (15 km) with clear line of sight
Devices per gateway:
Up to 100 meters per gateway (gateway model dependent)
Gateway connectivity:
Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or 3G/4G LTE
Locations: Unlimited
